Why I Got Banned from Etsy and Why I Refuse to Give Up on My Dream

Starting my own business has always been a dream of mine. I wanted to create something special for women who appreciate the art of smoking. That's how Growing Giggles Glass was born. I poured my heart and soul into crafting eco-friendly glass pieces that are both functional and beautiful. When I finally started selling on Etsy, I was thrilled as the sales began to roll in. It felt like I was on the brink of something wonderful. But just when I thought I was making progress, everything came crashing down when Etsy banned me for life.

A lifetime ban? It felt like a punch to the gut. I worked so hard to get my little venture off the ground, and in an instant, it was taken away. What frustrates me even more is the sheer number of marijuana-related businesses on the platform flourishing with similar products. So why was I singled out? It’s disheartening to see larger companies thrive while passionate creators like myself face shutdowns.

This experience has left me feeling confused and angry. I believed Etsy was a place that supported small businesses and creative entrepreneurs. Instead, I felt punished for trying to establish my place in the cannabis industry, which often feels male-dominated. It's disheartening, especially when I see other women thriving with marijuana accessories and wonderful glass pieces.

But here's the truth: I refuse to give up on my dream. I believe in the beauty of my creations and the powerful message they send. My glass pieces celebrate femininity and empowerment in a sector that has often overlooked women's voices. I want to foster a community where women can proudly express their choices.

Where to Go from Here?

I’m starting anew. I launched my own website and even opened an eBay store. It’s a fresh start, and though it feels daunting, the possibilities are exciting. Building a brand from scratch will take time and effort, but I’m fully prepared for the challenge. Connecting directly with my audience gives me the freedom to express myself without fear of bans or restrictions.

From this experience, I've learned valuable lessons that I want to share with you. If you’re a woman in the cannabis industry or considering starting your own venture, keep these points in mind:

1. Know Your Platform

Before joining any online marketplace, it’s crucial to do thorough research. Each platform has different rules and regulations, often especially around marijuana-related products. For instance, did you know that Etsy specifically prohibits sales of items containing cannabis? Being aware of these guidelines can save you from unpleasant surprises.

2. Build Your Own Brand

While platforms like Etsy can provide exposure, relying solely on them is risky. Consider creating your own website or exploring marketplaces like eBay. I found that by making this switch, I can control my brand's narrative and how it's presented to customers. Plus, a personal website can lead to reduced dependency on third-party policies.

3. Connect with Your Community

Networking is essential. Engage with other women in the cannabis industry, share your experiences, and learn from each other.

4. Stay True to Your Vision

It’s easy to feel disheartened when facing setbacks. However, remember why you started in the first place. Be true to your vision. My passion resonated with a growing audience eager for unique, eco-friendly glass pieces, and that fuels my determination.

Final Thoughts

Getting banned from Etsy was a tough blow, but it is not the end of my story. I look forward to the future and the opportunities ahead. My hope is that my journey resonates with you and inspires you to chase your dreams, regardless of obstacles. Remember, we are all in this together, and together, we can make a meaningful difference.

Thank you for being part of my journey. Let's continue this conversation and support one another in our vibrant community of women in the cannabis industry.
